about

Like many other gifted artists, Soji didn’t discover music…it found him, and not surprisingly given his early exposure to the majestic sounds of syncopated beats and soul stirring lyrics that were as eclectic as his upbringing. In fact, the Zimbabwe-born, Canadian-raised global citizen, who attended boarding school in Ireland and reveled in the insights from his Spanish and Mexican roommates, credits his family moving around a lot with the inevitable progression of his musical love affair - from youthful fascination to teenage infatuation, and now, a deep seated desire to touch hearts and minds through the power of organic music layered with relatable themes.

Soji’s worldly perspective and sincere appreciation for a wide range of genres is also the reason that defining his sound is no easy task, something the Edmonton native relishes since he has no interest in being pigeonholed culturally or creatively. From his first EP in 2017, Me To You, to his 2019 sophomore release, Agape, and his most recent offering, Me To You 2.0. - which evolved out of a live, acoustic session - Soji’s ability to create music without borders is evident in the convergence of Afrobeat, Pop, Rock, Reggae, R&B, and several other genres that are skillfully woven into a vibe that flows effortlessly between entrancing and energizing. But while his need to differentiate himself is clearly instinctive, Soji’s admiration for lesser known, yet uniquely masterful artists - like Jon Bellion and Jacob Banks - has also heavily influenced his determination to cultivate a lane not currently occupied by many at home or abroad.

Without question, talent, perseverance, and self-assurance are the driving forces behind Soji’s quest to one day turn his passion into his profession, but this self-taught lyricist, producer, and singer is also a student of the craft and has learned, by trial and error, that setting himself apart musically isn’t the only key to setting himself up for success. With a greater focus on audience engagement, strategic marketing, and exploring new skills like playing the piano, Soji’s more holistic approach to developing his artistry is just one of the reasons why the songs on Me To You 2.0, his in-session videos, and his attention to photography and content have earned him more followers and high praise on social media.

But no matter how bright his future may be or how strong his commitment to being the musical storyteller that puts Edmonton on the map and inspires young people to “just keep going,” Soji hasn’t lost sight of who and what is most important – spending quality time with his family, playing basketball and hanging with friends, waking up without an alarm clock, excited and hopeful for the day, going to the studio and putting in work, even after a long day at work; and above all else believing - without a doubt - that what’s meant for him, will come to him.
